Jacob Moon came to Napanee

Popular folk singer/songwriter Jacob Moon made his debut performance in Greater Napanee on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church. Local singer/songwriter Gloria Digby opened the concert.

A native of Hamilton, ON, Moon is an in-demand performer, known for his imaginative and innovative repertoire of cover songs, but more significantly as a deeply engaging songwriter whose original compositions have not only garnered him an ever-increasing audience throughout Canada and the United States, but earned him international songwriting awards (Unisong, GMA Canada, Great Lakes Song Contest) as well as winning 2006 Folk Artist of the Year from the Toronto Independent Music Awards and 2008 Best Seasonal Album at the CGMA Awards.

He made international headlines when his unique acoustic version of the classic Rush song, ‘Subdivisions’ became a viral YouTube sensation in 2008, earning accolades from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers themselves. When Rush was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010, they asked Moon to perform the song at the awards banquet.

Moon has opened for a variety of roots, rock and Gospel artists, including Martyn Joseph, Jodi King, and David Wilcox as well as touring Europe in 2013 as the opening act for progressive-rock legends Marillion. His most recent album is Fascination, a collection of cover songs of his favourite artists, including Rush, Yes, Marillion, Radiohead, Peter Gabriel and Tom Waits.

Greater Napanee was thrilled with Moon’s songs, stories, and superior songcraft and musicianship. This was a great evening of inspirational music.
